Summer drug on and the vacationers came and went, Tandy keeping busy with the preparations of cabins in between. She handled the calls, including the relentless needs of Matthew, though she was careful to avoid a situation that would find the two alone again. She felt guilty for sleeping with him, not only because it appeared as if she had used him for his body but because she knew why he was there in the first place. If it wasn’t for that. She sighed to herself as she worked on a broken pipe in cabin two, he is actually a great guy and I could see myself loving him. Matthew continued to find excuses for her time, compensating her for it nicely and adding the funds needed to save the home. Tandy was puzzled over the entire situation. If he wanted the farm to go under so badly, why was he continuing to contribute to saving it by paying her for her time? As she hammered away on the leaky pipe, she suddenly felt a presence behind her and whirled around, wrench in hand.

“Whoa there.” Matthew laughed and put his hands in the air. “Didn’t mean to startle you. I just wanted to come and talk.”

“Ok so talk.” She turned to continue her work.

“I feel like ever since the day in the meadow you have been avoiding me and,” he paused, rubbing his neck nervously, “I am growing real feelings for you. I wanted to know if it was something I did?”

She whirled around, unable to contain her secret any longer, “Yeah actually now that you mention it. You’re here to survey my family’s land, thinking they are going up for sale in a week. But let me tell you something, we have nearly raised all we need to keep it so you wasted your time.”

He sighed and looked down at his feet, “Well I’m not sure how you knew that, but I assure you plans have changed. I have fallen in love with this place Tandy, and with you.”

“You lied to my grandparents when you came here,” she growled. “Why would I believe you now?”

Matthew opened his mouth to respond but was cut off by a high-pitched voice behind them. They turned to find Mr. Pots, the bank manager, standing behind them in his usual plain brown suit. He smiled sarcastically towards them.

“Sorry to interrupt,” he sneered. “But we are taking the liberty of coming out for an inspection now. Your grandparents are still 3,000$ short and with only a week left to pay it seems the auction will be going ahead as planned.”

“The hell you aren’t.” Tandy began to shout, suddenly feeling strangely dizzy.

“Oh but we are Mrs. Clemmons.” He motioned to a crew behind him standing at the ready. “This is my collections team and will be taking stock of the farm and everyone within it, as the bank will now own all of it.”

“You can’t just take her home like that, she still has a week to go before your deadline.
